Christmas 2022
Happily, we did have a white Christmas. There hasn't been much snow OR sunshine all December or January, but we enjoyed what we could of the little we've had of each.
I decided to do something new and different for our Christmas meal but it wasn't easy or simple. Chinese dumplings, complete with homemade wrappers! Whew. Daniel had to come in and rescue me, but we did manage to get them all pinched together and fried. Very tasty, but probably not something to do for the first time on Christmas.
My family made it up between Christmas and New Year's and it was so good to have them here.
We watched the movie, "I Heard the Bells" together and even though it's a sad story, we all learned more of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and his story. I didn't realize he wrote the poem, "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" during the American Civil War. There are two verses we never sing specifically related to the war. No wonder it was easy for Longfellow to look around him and conclude "there is no peace on earth". However, he also concluded, "God is not dead, nor doth he sleep." Those are indeed, words to cling to heading into a new year. We don't know what 2023 will hold, but for sure there will be some good along with the sad and with God, "the Wrong shall fail, the Right prevail."
Happy New Year!
