Made in New Zealand

I like multi-purpose souvenirs. This one not only is something I can wear here, and expand my little travel wardrobe, but wear at home for the upcoming long winter that I'm bracing myself for. The wool is from sheep here in New Zealand, it was hand-spun and hand-dyed here too. (Do I need hyphens there? I don't know.) And then, I knitted it here too. So that was fun.

You can read all about it on my Ravelry project page.

I've already put it to good use and have worn it lots. For example, it was nice to have at Cape Foulwind. Where it was, quite appropriately, rather windy.

The ladies from Fibre Spectrum, where I bought the yarn were most helpful not only selecting the yarn, but when I lost my pattern for a bit half-way through. Anne, (below with me) helped me select it, and Vernette saved the day by being a fabulous lace knitter and picked up my lost stitches.

Thanks for being such a good sport Anne, I know you said you don't like pictures. And thanks to Natasha, for snapping this for me. :)

  1. Lovely -- both you and the cowl! You look like a Celtic princess with your braided circlet. :) What a nice reminder of your trip -- I'm fond of the idea of "functional" souvenirs.
My son has been begging for a scarf, so I've been checking out yarns again. It's been years since I've done any real knitting!

    1. I have really enjoyed knitting again. I tend to focus on it when I'm away from home, since I don't have the sewing machine. Yarns are so addicting, aren't they? Hope to see the new scarf on your blog sometime.

  4. I am very much enjoying getting to see New Zealand through your posts. I'd love to travel the world as you do, but for now as a graduate student I have to be content with seeing the world through others' travels and by participating in things like Postcrossing. ;)

    1. I understand! It's hard sometimes to be the one "staying home" but there are still so many little things to be enjoyed right in our own backyards.
