In Which We Visit a Small Island

We've lived in Michigan for 7 years and this was the first we've been to Mackinac Island. Way overdue for us to make a trip up north and see this famous location.

On our drive up we stopped at Petoskey, and visited the playground and the boat docks.

We stayed at a ski resort between Petoskey and Mackinaw City, and the next morning we headed to the ferry with two bikes and one skateboard in tow.

Oh my, the island did not disappoint. To get around, I rode my bike with Lincoln strapped on my back, Natasha rode her bike, we rented one bike for Miren and Daniel skateboarded. Note: Skateboards are NOT allowed in the city "limits" but once you're on the highway (the only one in America not used by cars), it's fine to skateboard.

The color of the water was super impressive and such a surprise to me. I really wasn't expecting to love the island as much as I did. I truly thought it was a tourist trap and way over commercialized. Which, in some ways, it was. But the bike path around the island the highlight of the trip and all of our favorite parts.
Also, we were happily able to cross off visiting a "pebble beach" from our summer bucket list due to the many little beaches available to explore.

Directly after this following picture was taken, Lincoln was stripped of his clothing due to his splashing that was due to drench him. He cheerfully threw rocks in Lake Huron completely bare bottomed and naked. It was the best.

We splurged for some pricey, but delicious, fudge, made right there on the island. It's full of real cream and butter.

Before heading back to the ferry we walked around town some, visited the cutest little stationary shop where Miren and I wanted to buy just about one of everything, and walked up to get a glimpse of the Grand Hotel. It was indeed grand.

The day on the island had come to a close. The weather was ideal and it was definitely a highlight of our summer.
The next morning we finished our little trip back where we basically began, at Petoskey for some coffee before driving the rest of the way home.
